IBU among finalists for the IOC Climate Action Awards

During the Paris 2024 Olympics, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) released the finalists for the annual IOC Climate Action Awards 2024, celebrating those within the Olympic Movement who are taking concrete measures to help address climate change.

The IOC Climate Action Awards - presented by Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner Deloitte2024 - encourage, recognise and reward innovative projects from National Olympic Committees (NOCs), International Federations (IFs) and athletes that aim to reduce the environmental impact of sports while inspiring the wider Olympic Movement to take action.

International Biathlon Union (IBU) was chosen as a finalist for working with TV broadcasters to measure their carbon footprint during the 2023/24 World Cup Season and identify initiatives they can implement to reduce emissions in the future, aiming to provide learnings for other sports. IBU is the first IF that has looked at reducing broadcasting emissions – an area often deemed difficult to address.

Riikka Rakic, IBU's Head of Strategy, Sustainability and Governance commented:

This project is a true example of cross-organizational collaboration for sustainability that wouldn't have been possible without the support of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the IBU Organizing Committees worldwide. I am excited to see the work at Biathlon Lenzerheide towards the WeAreALBERT Certification.
