Due to the bad weather conditions in Pokljuka, Slovenia, with warm temperatures and heavy rainfalls in the past two days and forecasted for the upcoming days, the competition schedule for the BMW IBU World Cup Biathlon has been changed. Both Individual competitions will be held as Short Individuals on Thursday, 13 March. Friday is a spare day used for venue maintenance and as a fallback option if no competitions can be held on Thursday. The Mass Starts are moved to Saturday and the Single Mixed and Mixed relays will be held on Sunday.
Race Director World Cup Borut Nunar said:
"The venue was in great shape last week, but heavy rain and warm wind have caused severe damage on the course. The weather forecast for this week is also not great with more rain and warm temperatures. Thus, we have now adjusted the competition programme in a way that reacts to this forecast and makes it more likely to have competitions in equal and fair conditions. We can focus the snow preparation on the 2.5 km and 3 km loops and can use the Friday for maintenance. It will be a challenging week and we have to take it day by day.”
