"We will be discussing the Over 33 category at the Technical Committee Meeting in May but we're confident that the additional silver bib will get green lights, meaning we'll have one more bib to watch out for during individual competitions next season," explains Daniel Böhm, IBU Sport and Event Director.
"We've seen big names of the sport being presented with the hand-knitted version in the past few years, just look at Jakov Fak, Denise Herrmann-Wick or Anais Bescond - and when both Tarjei Boe and Dorothea Wierer won the bib this winter, it was clear to us that we had a fantastic chance to build on this. Unlike Tarjei, Dorothea will be competing next season, and we're sure she'll be fighting hard to defend the bib during the Olympic winter."
The silver bib was originally born out of the wish to also recognise the 33 + athletes in the winter the U25, now U23 award, was introduced. Clare Egan and Susan Dunklee in particularly were the driving forces behind the bib which Dunklee ended up knitting during the Christmas break.
