IBU Successfully Conducts Pilot Regional Basic Course in Shchuchinsk

The IBU recently completed its first-ever Regional Basic Course in Shchuchinsk, Kazakhstan, gathering 26 dedicated coaches from Kazakhstan, Georgia, and Kyrgyzstan. This intensive 4.5-day training program, held at the biathlon venue in Shchuchinsk, marked a significant step in enhancing biathlon coaching skills in the region. The course was proudly supported by the IOC Olympic Solidarity Program.

The course welcomed 22 coaches from Kazakhstan, two from Georgia, and two from Kyrgyzstan. The educators and lecturers, each bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience, covered a range of essential topics:

  • Armin Kasslatter (ITA): Focused on the development of practical sessions, rifle knowledge, and weapon safety.

  • Trond Nystad (NOR): Provided training on basic skiing techniques, technical knowledge, methodology, and practical sessions.

  • Dmitriy Viderman (Narabayev University Astana): Addressed endurance, strength, and agility for young athletes.

  • Maxat Sharanov and Vladimir Zatula (KAZ): Delivered the practical sessions with Kasslatter & Nystad.

  • Dagmara Gerasimuk (IBU Development Director): Gave insights on Coaches' Soft Skills and the Business of Sport.

  • Gerold Sattlecker (IBU Head of Academy ): Addressed shooting techniques and the integration of advanced training methodologies to improve accuracy and performance.

The course employed a hybrid learning model, with participants engaging in tasks through the Learning Suite. This approach blended online education with practical, hands-on training sessions, ensuring a thorough understanding of biathlon coaching. To accommodate the diverse linguistic backgrounds of the attendees, simultaneous translation was provided in Russian, enabling full participation and comprehension of the course material.

Positive Reception and Future Plans

Gerold Sattlecker, Head of the IBU Academy, remarked:

This Pilot Regional Course was a great success. We educated twenty-six coaches from this region, and it was heartening to witness the enthusiasm for biathlon in Kazakhstan.

Building on this success, the IBU plans to expand the initiative with two additional Regional Basic Courses in 2025. National Federations are invited to apply and benefit from these valuable training opportunities.
