Why do individual actions matter?

You might be wondering how important individual action in a world of more than 8 billion people really is, and whether your pledge makes a difference in the fight against climate change.

It does. As Dalai Lama once said:

We all have the power to be game changers in the fight against climate change, whether by reducing our energy consumption, choosing to eat vegetarian, traveling by public transport, or buying second-hand.

Nobody is perfect and living 100% sustainable but the most important thing is that we all give our best to ensure that the future generations may still enjoy our beloved sport of biathlon.

To give you an idea how you can help #ProtectWhereWeSki, the Climate Pledge offers a choice of pledges, such as:

• car sharing

• going vegan for two days a week

• washing at 30 degrees

• switching to energy efficient light bulbs.

Just pick the one that you feel ready for right now, and motivate your friends and family to join too!

To illustrate the collective power of these pledges, here are some examples:

If all the 200'000 spectators expected to attend Nové Město na Moravě 2024 were to:

• switch to car sharing, it would save the same emissions as taking nearly 14'676 cars off the road

• take no more than 1 return flight per 3 years, it would save the same emissions as taking nearly 64'472 cars off the road

• go vegetarian, it would save the same emissions as taking nearly 38'440 cars off the road.

We need more imperfect advocates to raise awareness and inspire others to join the effort because the collective impact of many people making sustainable choices does add up!
