From its foundation, the IBU has always prioritised the fight for clean sport and the protection of clean athletes and therefore ensured that this was defined as a clear objective in the new IBU Constitution.
In 2003 the IBU became a signatory of the World Anti Doping Code, established by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). As such, the IBU, has since been WADA Code compliant and has been working closely with WADA concerning the implementation of the necessary procedures and standards.
The IBU Anti-Doping work is now carried out by the Biathlon Integrity Unit. The Biathlon Integrity Unit is an operationally independent and specialised unit of the IBU. It was established in 2019 in order to ensure all of Biathlon’s stakeholders can have confidence that ethical issues in the sport will be addressed independently and expertly.
The Biathlon Integrity Unit is responsible for the implementation of the Testing Programme and Education in the field of Anti-Doping. Testing is carried out according to the regulations set out in the WADA Code and in accordance with WADA Standards. Samples are collected by National Anti-Doping Agencies, Service Providers or the International Testing Agency (ITA) on behalf of the IBU and analysed in WADA-accredited Laboratories.
Please note the amendments of the Anti-doping Rules as from 1 January 2022 according to the WADA Code 2022.
