IBU-IOC Camp in Martell

The IBU-IOC Camp in Martell, Italy, was an important development event that brought together 54 athletes and 14 coaches from 14 different National Federations for a week of intensive training and knowledge sharing. Over the course of 8 days, participants engaged in a comprehensive program that combined practical sessions with valuable theoretical lessons on essential topics like shooting technique, nutrition, and anti-doping education.

The camp provided an excellent opportunity for both athletes and coaches to enhance their skills and knowledge. One of the most impactful moments was a presentation by former World Cup athlete Thomas Bormolini, who shared an emotional and insightful reflection on his career, discussing the challenges and triumphs he faced throughout his journey.

IBU coaches Armin Kasslatter, Karin Oberhofer, Edoardo Mezzaro, and Thomas Bormolini played an integral role in the success of the camp, offering their expertise and support throughout the sessions. Ilario Maddalin, the IBU Development Camps Project Coordinator, expressed his gratitude, saying,

“A big thanks to our IBU coaches, they did a great job during all sessions. Thanks also to the OC Martell for providing excellent conditions at the biathlon venue, and to the Hotel Waldheim for being a perfect host. We also appreciate the funding from the IOC Olympic Solidarity Program that made this camp possible.”

IBU Educators Karin Oberhofer and Thomas Bormolini were also very satisfied with the camp:

"I think the idea behind the IBU Project is great! It gives nations a chance to meet their learning needs effectively. People who engage with the content and see its value gain a lot of knowledge and improve their professionalism", said Oberhofer. "It has been absolutely a wonderful experience. So much to share with all the countries and a huge opportunity for all to learn and grow", said Bormolini.

A cultural highlight of the camp was the Crampus Evening, where the Organizing Committee of Martell showcased the region's beautiful Christmas traditions, giving participants a glimpse into the local heritage. The final race, a Mixed Relay Competition, was won by Team Spain ahead of Great Britain and Serbia.

Overall, the IBU-IOC Camp in Martell was a resounding success, leaving all participants inspired, motivated, and better equipped for their future challenges in biathlon.
