Mengin and Dale-Skjevdal win Arber’s first sprint

Amandine Mengin of France and Johannes Dale-Skjevdal are the winners of the first sprint at the IBU Cup in Arber Germany. Mengin debuted in the IBU Cup while Dale-Skjevdal strengthened his chances to return to the Norwegian World Cup team.

Mengin debuts with a win

Competing in her first-ever IBU Cup, the 20-year old Amandine Mengin of France dominated the race with a perfect shooting performance and a total time of 21:32.4, securing a decisive victory. Her teammate - returning to the IBU Cup for the first time since Obertilliach in the 2022/2023 season- Sophie Chauveau, followed closely behind, finishing 3.7 seconds back despite one missed shot in prone. Italy's Rebecca Passler showcased consistency on the shooting range with 10/10, earning a strong third place, 22.5 seconds behind Mengin.

It feels amazing to win in my first-ever competition in the IBU Cup! I came to Arber with no expectations. I am not looking too far ahead. I am just taking one race at a time and enjoy doing biathlon.

Voldiya Galmace Paulin, also from France, came in fourth, with a single miss in standing and a 26.5-second gap from the leader. Fifth place went to Camille Bened, who struggled in the standing shooting with two misses (0+2), finishing 51.5 seconds back. Another French athlete, Gillone Guigonnat, completed the top six despite one miss in both prone and standing, ending 55.8 seconds behind the winner.

Dale-Skjevdal edges closer to the World Cup return with a win

Norway’s Johannes Dale-Skjevdal claimed victory in the men’s Sprint with a strong performance, despite two misses, crossing the finish line with a time of 25:19.8. His teammate Sivert Guttorm Bakken, who shot clean, secured second place, 15.2 seconds behind Dale-Skjevdal, showcasing further progress in his comeback from health problems. Sverre Dahlen Aspenes, also from Norway, rounded out the podium despite two misses, finishing 23.9 seconds behind the winner.

THE WINNER’S WORDS - JOHANNES DALE-SKJEVDAL

It feels good to open a new year with a win. I trained well during the Christmas break, and it showed today. I managed my energy well, knowing the last lap would be hard for everyone due to the challenging conditions.

In fourth place was another Norwegian, Isak Frey 33.3 seconds back. Like Dale-Skjevdal and Aspenes, Frey had two misses. Fifth place went to another Norwegian Vetle Paulsen, who missed only once but finished 58.7 seconds behind. Italy’s Daniele Cappellari prevented the full Norwegian flower podium, finishing in sixth place with a single miss and a time deficit of 1:17.4.
