Do you remember the first Finnish relay podium since 1999 in the Holmenkollen Single Mixed relay? Or the Estonian Women finishing 4th in the BMW IBU World Championships relay? We also saw more surprises in the Nove Mesto Na Morave World Championships as Andrejs Rastorgujevs (LAT) took silver in men's mass start and Janina Hettich-Walz (GER) in women's individual.
It is not easy to make a breakthrough to the top in biathlon with a lot of bright stars already shining but these four athletes dug deep throught the season 2023-2024 and managed to rise to the top. Eric Perrot (FRA) was the first biathlon athlete to be born in the 2000s to win a World Cup event. Juni Arnekleiv (NOR) took two podiums with 3rd places this season and showed all her potential.
Campbell Wright (USA) had a hard start to the season but after the Christmas break we saw a new man at the start gate and he made the home crowd cheer the loudest in Soldier Hollow as he took his career first flowers in the men's sprint. Lena Haecki-Gross (SUI) has been around for a bit but this was truly her breakthrough season with two World Cup victories - her first ever on the main tour!
