The International Biathlon Union

The International Biathlon Union (IBU) is recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), as the international governing body for the Olympic sport of biathlon. Headquartered in Anif near Salzburg, the IBU is a non-profit organisation registered in Austria that regulates the sport and oversees the competion organisation world-wide. In cooperation with its 63 member national federations, the IBU uses competitions, events, programmes and other activities to promote and develop participation in Biathlon throughout the world.

Role Purpose

One of the main responsibilities of the International Biathlon Union is to govern the sport of Biathlon. This includes the responsibility of guiding the Biathlon Family towards its future goals

To ensure the effective execution of platform maintenance and initiatives under the Strategic Plan Target 2030, the IBU is looking for a highly skilled Project Manager with scrum and agile development expertise to lead and support the organisation’s website and app projects as part of its Target 2030 digital initiatives.

This role involves managing digital projects with precision while executing new digital developments and initiatives under the direction of the Head Of Digital. Working with various teams — including internal departments and external partners — you will play a central role in delivering world-class digital owned platforms aligned with IBU’s strategic goal to increase engagement and the reach of the sport.

Key responsibilities

  • Project Management:

    • Lead the planning, prioritisation, and coordination of development projects for websites and apps with external agencies.

    • Utilize Agile or Scrum methodologies to ensure efficient and timely delivery.

    • Establish and maintain a sprint backlog, incorporating input from various departments.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration:

    • Act as the primary for various teams to capture and translate their platform needs.

    • Balance and prioritize requests to align with organizational goals and resource availability.

  • Platform Optimization:

    • Monitor and improve digital platform performance by collaborating with the external development team on updates and fixes.

    • Implement user feedback to enhance the user experience.

  • Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain clear records of project timelines, decisions, and stakeholder approvals.

    • Provide regular updates to the HOD on project status and platform performance metrics.

  • Partner Management:

    • Coordinate with external development companies to ensure adherence to project specifications, quality standards, and deadlines.

Qualification, skills and experience

To support the existing team, candidates need to meet the following criteria:

  • Proven experience in managing digital platform development projects.

  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies, sprint planning, and backlog management.

  • Proficiency in analysing data to measure project success and inform decisions (GA4, GTM, SEO)

  • Proficiency in project management tools and software (e.g., Trello, Jira, Confluence).

  • Have a solid academic background to Bachelor’s degree level; preferably in project management or a similar relevant study.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Self-reliant and able to manage multiple projects independently.

  • Excellent organizational and planning skills, with an aptitude for prioritizing work based on impact and urgency.

  • Language Skills: Fluency in English (written and spoken)

Terms and conditions

Full terms and conditions will be set out in a contract however the key features are as follows:

Renumeration: Hourly Rate, based on the successful candidate's qualifications and work experience.

Working hours: Mostly flexible hours except for regular meetings; averaging 4 days per month, depending on platform development cycles.

Travel: Travel for occasional in person meetings.

Working location: Remotely
