The International Biathlon Union's (IBU) journey of enhancing coaching expertise took another step forward. After a successful first week in Hochfilzen, the second week of the First Level Course moved to Östersund, Sweden, from 7-12 October.
Östersund, known for hosting World Cup events, offered the ideal setting for the second week of this course. It boasted of excellent facilities like seminar rooms, a shooting range, a ski roller track, and a strength room all at one location. The convenience of having everything at one site ensured that the 21 coaches from 19 different National Federations got the best learning experience.
The curriculum for the week in Östersund put a spotlight on endurance, strength, agility, training planning, and practical skiing techniques. The coaches had the privilege to learn from respected figures in the field. Lectures and sessions were led by renowned educators such as Prof. Oyvind Sandbakk, Prof. Marko Laaksonen, Knut Kuvas Brevik, Johan Hagström, Ola Ravald, and Gerold Sattlecker.
Special appreciation goes to our hosts, Ulrika Öberg and Jonas Johansson from the Swedish Biathlon Federation, for their warm hospitality and support in organizing the week.
Head of Academy Gerold Sattlecker shared his thoughts, saying:
Östersund is the perfect venue for us. They have everything we need. Plus, with the support of experts like Jonas Johansson, Ola Ravald, and Johan Hagström from the Swedish Federation, we had a strong team of IBU Educators throughout the week.
The final third week of the First Level Course is eagerly anticipated and will take place in March 2024 in Jakuszyce, Poland. The IBU remains committed to strengthening the bonds of the biathlon community and taking the sport to new heights.
